RECENT STATUS DESCRIPTION

According to the 2020 Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students, 26.74% of the students were categorized as “needing improvement” in English (https://cap.rcpet.edu.tw/history.html). The differences in student performance may be affected by the following factors:

  • Social background
  • Motivation for English Learning
  • Education System
  • Urban/rural disparity
  • Teacher Education
Basic education in Taiwan lasts for 12 years, which includes 6 years of primary education and 6 years of secondary education. Bachelor degrees require 4 years to complete, and graduate and above degrees can take as little as 1 year (for a master’s degree) and as much as 7 years (for a doctoral degree).
